The syllabus is centered around activities and skills which are common to most professional contexts. Below you will find a suggested course program (which can be adjusted according to the group’s preferences):
Lessons 1 and 2 - introducing yourself professionally
Lessons 3 and 4 - meetings
Lessons 5 and 6 - emails / communication in the workplace
Lessons 7 and 8 - small talk and networking
We will work on the same topic for two weeks. In the first lesson, we will delve into the material we read, watched or listened to and have a discussion. In the second lesson, we will focus on a task which aims at analyzing and practicing a skill required in professional contexts.
What I offer
-
Authentic: I make use of authentic materials in my lessons. These are texts which have been written in English for speakers of the language. These materials connect learners with the English-speaking community and broaden their knowledge not only of the language but the world as well.
-
Reactive: the language we study isn’t pre-selected or prescribed–on the contrary, my goal is to help you fill in gaps in your knowledge. This means we’re going to study aspects of the language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation…) that are necessary to you.
-
Relevant: our discussions will typically revolve around your experiences and your views on the world. Also, the feedback I give you is based on your needs, wants and specific context.
What I expect from you
This is a flipped course. This means you will be assigned an asynchronous task each week so as to prepare for our meetings. These tasks are mandatory and part of the course workload, so make sure to consider this extra time (from 30 to 60 minutes a week) you will spend on these tasks.
I believe in teaching that is authentic, reactive, and relevant:
